Embarcadero is the most recent blend to be added to the Fog City Selection. Made from rich, ripe, red Virginia tobaccos and top grade Izmir leaf, the blend is pressed and aged in cakes before being sliced and gently broken. The prototype was unveiled at the Chicago Show, and met with an enthusiastic crowd.

At the age of 23 Charles Rattray left the tobacco firm of Fairweather in Dundee to open his own shop in Perth. Within a few years, the name of Charles Rattray, Perth Scotland was known world-wide as mail orders poured in for such tobaccos as Black Mallory, Hal O' the Wynd, Jock's Mixture and others. Two world wars came and went as did employees at 158 High Street in Perth, but one thing always remained constant--the dedication to produce the finest smoking tobaccos possible. Old Charles is gone now, but the tradition of quality he started and insisted on carries on today. Experience the finest in Old World hand blended quality tobaccos with every bowlful of Rattray's--Charles would be proud his name is still on the classic blends, still made as he intended. Charles Rattray started his career in the tobacco industry working at the Fairweather factory in Dundee, Scotland. In 1903 he started his own tobacco house in Perth. A beautiful shop with dark timbers and light colored carpets adorned with tobacco accessories and carved wooden figurines of "Highlanders". The warehouses stored many rows of Oak barrels full of premium quality tobaccos which were blended in small batches by hand. The classic mixtures created there quickly earned a reputation of incomparable excellence, which is rarely seen in today's market.

Located in Kendal, in the South Lakeland area of the North West of England we have been manufacturing snuff and pipe tobacco since 1792. We still continue to use the same traditional methods and, indeed, some of the original machinery that was second hand when the company started. For over 200 years, Samuel Gawith & Co. have been producing fine pipe tobaccos that have been enjoyed by all walks of life the world over. In the mountainous Lake District of Cumbria, the generations of Gawiths have been hand cutting, stripping and blending their tobaccos.

Manufactured in the same way as Best Brown, this choice Virginia leaf is steamed to pliable texture. Then through hand bundling the leafs are pressed, where they remain for two hours under about 80 pounds of pressure. Four hours of steaming and eight hours of cooling under the pressure of the steam press gives the rich brown color and full flavor to the delectable flake.

All grades of tobacco are meticulously blended to create the finest smoking experience possible today. Rudiger L. Will was literally born to blend tobacco, growing up in his father's tobacco factory playing amongst the hogsheads and bales of fine leaf. A prodigy of tobacco blending, at a very early age young Rudiger exhibited a knack for identifying the different tobaccos by smell. After spending over three years traveling the world studying tobacco growing, handling, and manufacturing, he soon announced his presence to the world by developing the original blends for one of the most popular lines of pipe tobacco ever, Borkum Riff. In 1997 R.L. Will, by then long established as one of the greatest blenders ever, introduced the Solani line of tobaccos. The Solani name is derived from the Latin word "solanum" which means night-shade plants. In developing the Solani line, Will wanted to offer the pipe smoker very mature tobaccos with as little additives as possible.
